Ilha Grande, Paraty, Guaruja y Florianopolis, 23 de Enero a 3 de Febrero.

From Rio we travelled along the coast to a few of the little gems that Brazil has to offer.
Very much on the tourist trail but amazing nonetheless. As it was mainly beach time with the odd afternoon of looking around town, there´s not too much to blog!
................here is an eclectic mix of photos from our journeys.

Ilha Grande
This is a pristine car-less island 2 hours drive and a 1.5 hour boat trip from Rio. Perhaps the trip that brought us to the realization that us and boats just don´t go!
Like the Darien Gapster, we broke down twice. Merely minor teething problems this time so no spew bags, but the Milkers have jointly decided no more boats for a while!!

Ilha Grande main bay

Hike across the island to the famous Lopes Mendes beach.
Have to plug NZ and Oz here as this could easily be Marlborough
Sounds, the Corommandel Peninsula or Wilsons Promontry in Victoria.

Mid-walk, looking back to the mainland.

Some tip-top heat relief along the way.....
Lopes Mendes, favourite beach and swim of the trip!!

Lopes Mendes

Baa baa..........just to remind us of our fast approaching home-coming!

Transicion, desde Ilha Grande hasta Paraty.
Paraty
2 hours drive along the coast from Ihla Grande is the sleepy town of Paraty - small & historical and surrounded by loads of perfect empty beaches.........

Not sure of the relevance of this random fella...........

Matt was stoked when lining up this shot a bonus
horse & cart trotted into frame!

Guaruja
Next stop, Matts cuzzie James and a marmite sandwich!!
Guaruja and Santos are the nearest and most popular beach towns for the 20-something million Sao Paulo residents.

Dumb tourist acts haven´t frequented for a while but we added one here on arrival.
Sent James on a wild goose chase into an area of Guaruja that he´s not been to or heard of, as the tourists got off at the wrong station. Rang him to say we were at the rodovario, little did we know that that is the general Portugese term for station!
After borrowing 2 random peoples phones, we got him on our trail and we had a great 3 days just cruising around Guaruja with James excellente hospitality!!

Onto James´ bungy on arrival........

Think I heard Matt squeal!!

CONCRETE JUNGLE.... Sao Paulo
Florianopolis
A further 11 hours down the road to Floripa....here we got caught out on the photo front as we put the camera away for a few days and then had rain the day we wanted to snap away,
so unfortunately very little photo evidence of Florianoplis.

Down to counting days..........
From Florianopolis we took our last (yes last!!) overnight bus journey inland to Foz do IguaƧu - for some long awaited and much anticipated waterfall action!
